Love is not a limited resource

Our Rescue Cats

Bengals and rescue cats go hand in hand at Leopard Moon. Both make our world a brighter place.

Two truths at once

Purpose-bred with care. Rescue with love.

Responsible breeding asks us to be accountable for every animal we bring into the world. Rescue asks us to notice the animals already here who are waiting, displaced, abandoned, or born into difficult circumstances.

Those commitments strengthen one another. Both begin with lifelong responsibility, honest care, and the belief that an animal is never disposable.

Our rescue family

Meet Willow, Poptart, and Muffin.

Three little lives found their way indoors, into the middle of our family, and permanently into the story of Leopard Moon.

Found at four weeks old

Willow

Willow was rescued from a farm at just four weeks of age. Her siblings did not survive the farm's dog, and we got her in the nick of time. She was so small that she still needed kitten milk.

Kittens taken home so early can miss important time learning from their mother and littermates, and early separation should happen only when safety makes it necessary. Willow is thriving today, and we are so grateful we were able to save her in time.

Found in the garden

Poptart

Poptart and her brother, Muffin, were found in our garden last spring. Muffin was handed to me by our lawn crew, while Poptart cowered in a corner beside our foundation. We were equally terrified of each other. I tried to grab her, but she kept spitting and hissing at me, as tiny as she was.

She was about six weeks old when we found her. I hoped her mama cat would come back for her, but she never did. Jay was finally able to grab her and move her indoors.

I spent a lot of time helping Poptart and Muffin become comfortable with affection, touch, and treats. Today Poptart enjoys prowling the house, playing with Willow, and getting into all kinds of shenanigans. Like the Bengals, she is fascinated by water, and she often scales furniture or our window panes. She is extremely adventurous.

Love at first sight

Muffin

Muffin is our big baby. He is Poptart's littermate and a huge mama's boy. He is very vocal, follows me throughout the day, and enjoys a lot of snuggling. When the lawn crew handed him to me, he was so tiny he fit in my hand. It really was love at first sight.

After we brought Muffin and Poptart indoors, we spent the rest of the evening, until 11 p.m., crawling through the bushes looking for their littermates. It was so cold and we were so worried, but unfortunately we were unable to catch them.

The following day, we took Muffin and Poptart to our emergency veterinarian for a health examination. They were too young for their first shots, but the veterinarian was able to deworm them. I am grateful every day that these two are living safely with us rather than outdoors and feral like their mother and siblings.

If you find a stray kitten, here is what you can do to protect the kitten, protect yourself, arrange urgent care, and begin building the trust that can turn a frightened baby into a massive love-bug.

Every life matters

Rescue belongs in our family story.

Willow, Poptart, and Muffin are not a footnote to Leopard Moon. They are beloved members of the household, fellow prowlers of the windows, supervisors of ordinary days, and proof that the Cat Distribution System has excellent timing.
